Coordinator’s Message

Oguzhan Yilmaz

Dear parents and students,

Welcome back! Term 3 started on a positive note for our school community with an Eid festival and I was delighted to see a lot of our parents supporting on the day. Term 3 is surely going to be one of the busiest terms with lots of extra-curricular activities and preparation for upcoming events that will be held in Term 4.

This term we also had the Vic Roads program ‘Keys Please’ come out and talk to our year 10s about the process of getting their learners licence and driving. Whether or not they already have their Ls, this session told them everything they need to know about making the most of the learner driver period. The students found this session very informative. We thank Vic Roads for coming out to Sirius College.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you about our upcoming events. Secondary camp is scheduled for Term 4 between 19th of October to 21st of October. As a general rule, camp participation is compulsory for all secondary students. If you can foresee any problems i.e social or financial, we would appreciate you discussing the matter with the relevant coordinator at your earliest convenience.

Another important event we are preparing for as a secondary department is Speech Night (formerly awards night) which will take place on 11th of November. We will start selling the tickets for speech night from the office at the start of week 8. This will be a day where our students will exhibit all of their hard work throughout the year. Students will also be performing on the evening and a number of awards will be distributed to students. We encourage all parents to get involved and believe it is very important for students to be acknowledged for their hard work. Speech night also motivations students to improve their work.

I would like to remind parents to please respond to online permission slips. As most of you are aware, important documents pertaining to excursions, incursions or any event is now sent as a link to parents’ mobile phones. Whether you grant permission or not for your child, it is very important that you respond to official school documents/letters.

It is also important to remind everyone that during cooler months in Terms 3, students must wear their vest/ jumper and the school blazer in the first three periods. If they are still feeling cold then they are allowed to wear a white skivvy under their Sirius College shirt. Students are not allowed to wear their Sirius College sports hoodie jackets under their blazers. These rules are applicable to all excursions; otherwise students will not be allowed to go on excursions. In cases where a student is out of uniform e.g. if they come to school with a different jacket, they must bring a signed letter from their parent/guardian explaining their reason. It is only with this letter that the school office will issue students a uniform pass. Relevant coordinators will follow up students who continue to be out of uniform and there will be consequences given to those students at the coordinator’s discretion. Students wearing different uniform will have their items confiscated. It is the duty of the parent to collect their child’s belongings from the relevant coordinator.

Kind Regards,
Oguzhan Yilmaz
